MG Motor has finally unveiled its much-awaited electric sports car, the MG Cyberster, in India. With a starting price of Rs 74.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this all-electric roadster is now one of the most stylish and futuristic vehicles on Indian roads. It brings together stunning looks, thrilling performance, and advanced electric technology in a sporty two-door convertible package.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes the MG Cyberster special.
Design & Style – A Head Turner on the Road
The MG Cyberster grabs attention from the moment you look at it. Inspired by classic British roadsters, it combines retro charm with a modern twist. It features:
- Scissor-style doors that open upwards
- Slim LED headlights and taillights
- Low-slung sporty body
- Convertible soft-top roof
Its long bonnet and short rear deck give it an aggressive stance. The sharp curves and aero-friendly design make it look fast even while standing still.
Electric Power & Performance – Fast and Fun to Drive
Under the stylish body, the MG Cyberster packs a strong electric powertrain. It comes in two variants:
Variant | Power Output | Drive Type | 0-100 kmph Time | Range (Approx.) |
Cyberster EV | 340 PS | Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) | 5.2 seconds | 520 km |
Cyberster AWD | 544 PS | All-Wheel Drive (AWD) | 3.2 seconds | 500 km |
The more powerful AWD version offers performance similar to premium sports cars. The Cyberster zooms from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, making it MG’s fastest car to date.
It is built on MG’s advanced EV platform and offers a lithium-ion battery pack that supports fast charging.
Interior & Features – High-Tech Cabin
The interior of the MG Cyberster is just as futuristic as its exterior. It has a driver-focused cockpit with premium materials and cutting-edge technology. Key features include:
- Triple-screen layout (for infotainment, instrument cluster, and vehicle controls)
- Sports steering wheel
- Bucket-style sporty seats
- Ambient lighting
- Premium audio system
- Voice commands and connected car tech
The cabin feels premium, sporty, and digital – all at the same time.
Safety Features
MG has also loaded the Cyberster with many safety technologies such as:
- 6 Airbags
- ABS with EBD
- Lane Keep Assist
- Blind Spot Detection
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Rear View Camera
These features make it not just fun to drive, but also safe.
Price & Availability
The MG Cyberster is available in two variants:
Variant Name | Ex-showroom Price (India) |
Cyberster EV (RWD) | ₹74.99 Lakh |
Cyberster AWD | ₹89.98 Lakh |
It will be sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), meaning it is imported directly from outside India. For now, MG plans to sell it in limited numbers to gauge customer response.
Competition
In India, there is currently no direct rival to the MG Cyberster in the electric sports car segment. However, it could be compared to other high-end cars like:
- BMW Z4
- Porsche 718 Boxster
- Jaguar F-Type
But all of these are petrol-powered. That makes Cyberster a unique EV offering in this segment.
